At the Town of Yountville, continuous learning is a key part of how we grow and serve our community. Guided by the Yountville FOCUS, we take a forward-thinking approach by encouraging curiosity, skill-building, and ongoing development at every stage of a career. We remain open-minded to new ideas, evolving practices, and different perspectives, recognizing that learning helps us adapt to change and improve how we do our work. Through training, mentorship, and shared experiences, we create opportunities for growth that strengthen both individual skills and the organization as a whole.
Our commitment to learning reflects who we are as an organization, committed to professional development, united in supporting one another, and focused on long-term sustainability. By investing in our people, we build understanding, retain institutional knowledge, and prepare for the future together. Programs like the Operator-in-Training (OIT) Volunteer Program are one example of how we put FOCUS into action, reinforcing our belief that when we learn and grow together, we strengthen our team and the Town we serve.
The Operator-in-Training (OIT) Volunteer Program is intended to provide individuals pursuing careers in water and/or wastewater operations with meaningful, hands-on experience in a public utility environment. The program is designed to primarily support California wastewater treatment certification requirements, while also offering limited exposure to broader utility operations consistent with the Town’s small-agency operational model. This program will reinforce workforce development, enhance partnerships with educational institutions, and build a pipeline of qualified operator candidates for future employment opportunities.
